Christoper Mandut said Sabah will have a brighter future if all parties, including Warisan, set aside their differences and prioritise unity.
KOTA KINABALU : – A Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) leader has suggested that Warisan apply to become a Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component party after its repeated offers to cooperate with the ruling coalition fell on deaf ears.
PBS Youth chief Christoper Mandut said once Warisan submits its application it would be raised at the GRS Supreme Council for an “open discussion”.
“We believe that if all parties set aside their differences and prioritise unity, it will be a positive step towards a brighter future for Sabah,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Warisan president Shafie Apdal said GRS had turned down numerous invitations to discuss working together for the upcoming state election.
Shafie said the only response he received was “no, we don’t want to work with Warisan”.
The former chief minister said collaboration to unite Sabahans would make it easier for the state to realise its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
Mandut said he was caught off guard by Shafie’ statement as Warisan had often criticised GRS.
“In fact, not long ago, Warisan seemed more inclined to cooperate with Umno.
“However, if Warisan is genuinely ready to open a new chapter for the benefit of Sabah, we welcome this intention.”
He said Sabah would be better off if all political parties, including Warisan, set aside differences and prioritised unity.
