KOTA KINABALU (: Qhazanah Sabah Berhad (QSB), a wholly-owned investment arm of the Sabah State Government, in collaboration with Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC), is proud to announce its upcoming one-day conference titled Sabah Renewable Energy Conference 2025: Corridor to Transform Vision to Reality (SAREC 2025) that is set to take place on April 24, 2025, at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
SAREC 2025 will be officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, Minister of Finance Sabah, representing Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, the Chief Minister of Sabah.
The conference promises to be a showcase of forward-thinking insights on the Renewable Energy landscape in Sabah from industry experts, financial players and regulators.
The one-day event aims to complement the initiatives of the Sabah State Government in increasing the adoption of Renewable Energy in Sabah, in tandem with the establishment of the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040) spearheaded by the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECOS).
“SAREC 2025 will be a platform for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and shaping the future of Renewable Energy in Sabah and beyond,” said MARC Group Chief Executive Officer, Arshad Mohamed Ismail.
“We are excited to welcome policymakers, financial sector players, industry leaders and investors interested in being a part of the exciting development of Sabah’s Renewable Energy market.”
“MARC, as a key capital market intermediary, will highlight the role of the financial industry in mobilising investments for Sabah’s Renewable Energy sector,” said Arshad.
“This will open up substantial opportunities for Sabah’s economy. Renewable Energy investment is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years and private financing will play a significant role in funding these investments.”
“Market barriers as well as the perception of risk constrain the development and financing of renewable energy projects. An understanding of these challenges can help overcome concerns, mitigate investment risk and improve capital access, and SAREC 2025 will be the platform to facilitate this,” he added.
Group Chief Executive Officer of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad, Datuk Ahmad Rizal Dahli emphasised that SAREC 2025 is one of the initiatives by the company to support the aspiration of the Sabah State Government to achieve more than 30% (by energy MWh) of renewable energy mix for the state by 2030 as outlined in SE-RAMP 2040, and at the same time highlighting the importance of public and private partnership to ensure that the needs of all stakeholders are addressed accordingly.
“In Qhazanah, our goal is to provide an inclusive and diverse platform for collaborative synergy. For us, synergistic collaboration is vital in ensuring a comprehensive discourse. We decided to introduce SAREC 2025 to highlight Sabah’s potential in terms of industry growth and investment opportunity.”
“Most importantly, we believe that this conference will be a suitable platform to encourage and enhance nation-building between local and nationwide stakeholders. We are hopeful that the discussions from this conference will provide better clarity in aligning with the state’s master plan to meet the nation’s agenda on renewable energy utilisation,” added Ahmad Rizal.
SAREC 2025 will host a series of presentations and panel discussions, where participants can gain practical insights into policies, financial and investment strategies, and energy transition strategies for the growth of Sabah’s Renewable Energy industry.
