KOTA KINABALU : – Sabah lawmaker Jannie Lasimbang is working closely with PERKESO to ensure none of the eligible is left out of the social protection.
“We talk a lot about empowerment. Let’s start with protection where It’s needed most.”
“As the State Assemblywoman for N.25 Kapayan, I have always believed that real empowerment begins with real protection,” she said in a statement.
Jannie said for too long, housewives, small business owners, and informal workers have been left out of the social protection conversation.
“That is why I have worked closely with PERKESO to ensure that the Skim Keselamatan Sosial Suri Rumah (SKSSR) and Skim Keselamatan Sosial Pekerja Sendiri (SKSPS) are not just policies on paper, but protections that reach the ground,” he added.
These schemes matter deeply to our community.
SKSSR provides housewives with coverage in the event of domestic accidents, long-term illness, permanent disability, and death.
SKSPS offers protection to those in self-employment and informal work, including bakers, food sellers, Grab drivers, online traders, and many others.
According to Jannie, in Kapayan, they treat their contributions as essential, not secondary.
In 2024, under the Jelajah PH Wanita initiative, Kapayan was one of six districts selected to champion SKSSR outreach.
“I am proud to share that we successfully registered 100 women from Kapayan, contributing to a total of 600 registrations across Sabah with strong support from PERKESO Sabah,” she said.
That effort continued this year.
At a recent outreach held at Lintas Platinum Hotel, they re-enrolled another 100 housewives from Kapayan under SKSSR.
“We also facilitated 50 new SKSPS registrations for self-employed individuals, including those running home-based businesses or working in the gig economy.”
” I also extended support to the community in Darau, where another 50 SKSSR registrations were completed in collaboration with Minister of Human Resources Steven Sim Chee Keong.
At a recent Lindung Kasih PERKESO ceremony, Steven Sim announced that he will be providing SKSSR protection to 600 housewives.
This is a significant step forward in our shared commitment to empower and support women at the household level.
“I welcome and fully support this initiative, which reflects the spirit of inclusivity and care that must guide all public service,” Jannie said.
These efforts are not just about numbers.
They are about people, and making sure that everyone, regardless of their job title, has access to protection, security, and dignity.
Whether in homes, at roadside stalls, or behind steering wheels, their work matters.
At the function, also witnessed first hand payments of benefits to those who contributed to these schemes.
Jannie also accompanied the Minister to deliver support to two claimants in Penampang.
