KOTA KINABALU : – Despite relatively being new to the political scene, former head of the KWSP Kota Marudu branch, Gundohing Josely Taising, is ready to provide a strong challenge to UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick in Kadamaian in the upcoming Sabah State Election (PRN).
The native of Taginambur is touted to be the candidate put forward by KDM leadership to contest against incumbent Ewon, who is expected to defend his Kadamaian seat for the third time.
Josely has reportedly received the endorsement and strong support of the KDM Kadamaian coordinator, Tuan Zamal Intim, as confirmed by the unanimous decision of the KDM N11 Kadamaian Division Meeting, along with the backing of the KDM Kota Belud Division Chief, Datuk Almudin Kaida, to contest in the DUN, which is the only seat that UPKO won in the previous state election.
Josely stated that he is prepared to take on the responsibility and trust if given the opportunity to contest in Kadamaian.
“In the context of Sabah’s political developments, it is clear that there is a rising awareness and desire among the community to advocate for a new political ideology that seeks a dominant local party that is ‘not tied’ to parties from Malaya.
“That is why I accept this challenge and join KDM to work with the people of Kadamaian to realize their dreams,” he said in his latest social media post.
According to Josely, the potential for KDM to create a surprise in the Kadamaian state constituency is significant.
“Nothing is impossible in politics. In an instant, the flow of public support can change. I see the burning desire of the people of Kadamaian, including young voters, for change.
“The response from the people of Kadamaian towards KDM is also encouraging, and it is being touted as a party capable of competing with the existing parties,” he said.
Josely mentioned that based on surveys conducted in several villages in Kadamaian, one of the frequently raised issues is the poor condition of the roads leading to several villages.
Similarly, the method of delivering and managing welfare facilities for the elderly and the B40 group is not very transparent and somewhat misguided.
“The people have also raised concerns about the sports and recreational facilities that are still lacking, especially in Kadamaian,” he said.
If given the mandate, Josely expressed his determination to assist the people of Kadamaian in obtaining better road infrastructure.
“Priority will also be given to providing or constructing sports facilities such as a mini sports complex to ensure that the promising youth have a comfortable training space. A reform in the selection method for the JKKK Chairman will be implemented through a voting system so that the voices of the village community can be respected and valued,” he added.
Josely stated that the people of Kadamaian should express their dissatisfaction with the current government (which is controlled by Malaya) through the ballot box by voting for the KDM candidate.
“This ensures that the grassroots voices of the people of Kadamaian resonate strongly in the DUN,” he said.
Josely holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and a Master’s Degree in Christian Studies.
Ewon is currently undertaking two roles as a representative, namely as the ADUN of Kadamaian and also as a Member of Parliament for Penampang.
