KGKS supports the reintroduction of caning in schools

Murakam…a firmer action must be taken undisciplined students.

KOTA KINABALU : – The Sabah Government Teachers’ Union (KGKS) has shown its complete backing for the idea of bringing back caning as a punishment for unruly students in schools.

KGKS President Murkam Hj Hussien thinks that the recent incidents of rape involving students in Melaka make a strong case for reintroducing caning in schools.

He said this form of punishment isn’t just about physical discipline; it’s meant to help teachers keep control of the classroom, especially when they face stubborn and challenging students.

“The rape incident that took place in a school classroom in Melaka should act as a wake-up call and a lesson for everyone, especially teachers and parents.

“In the past, corporal punishment was indeed a part of school life.”

” But lately, it seems like the ministry is leaning more towards the opinions of parents or the public,” he said in a statement today.

Murkam stressed that it’s time for the ministry to take a firmer stance on undisciplined students for the good of everyone involved.
