Datuk James Ligunjang…There is a saying in Sabah, especially in rural areas, ‘Tiada duit tiada undi.’
PENAMPANG : – As Sabah prepares for the upcoming state election, with nomination day scheduled for 15th November 2025 and voting on 29th November 2025, the importance of financial capacity for aspiring candidates becomes increasingly apparent.
Many aspiring independent candidates and smaller parties, operating with limited resources, will face significant financial challenges.
These smaller parties typically allocate substantial funds during the period between the dissolution of the assembly and nomination day to raise awareness, build recognition, and establish their presence in the electoral landscape.
However, this early investment may deplete their resources, leaving them with limited funds to finance their election machinery once the official campaign period begins.
With constrained funding, their ability to maintain momentum, execute effective outreach, and compete against well-established parties with larger budgets may be severely hindered.
This financial disparity can ultimately diminish their chances of making a meaningful impact and securing victory.
There is a saying in Sabah, especially in rural areas, ‘Tiada duit tiada undi.’
This election underscores a critical reality that financial strength plays a pivotal role in electoral success.
James Ligunjang is a Justice of Peace and a former State Assemblyman
