Incumbent Datuk Joniston Bangkuai expects a multi-cornered contest in Kiulu.
TUARAN : – With nomination day less than two weeks away, grassroots leaders from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) have intensified coordination efforts to ensure Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) retains the Kiulu seat amid expectations of a multi-cornered contest.
In a show of unity and readiness, both component parties gathered for a Polling Agent and Counting Agent (PACA) Workshop organised by the Kiulu GRS election machinery committee in Tamparuli on Monday.
The session focused on strengthening operational coordination, familiarising agents with electoral procedures, and reinforcing teamwork ahead of polling.
Present were GRS and PBS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai; GRS state PACA Head and Sulaman PGRS deputy chief Datuk Abdul Kasim Razali; and Kiulu PGRS Deputy Chief Datuk George Teo.
Joniston said the cooperation between PBS and PGRS in Kiulu reflects GRS’s strength as a coalition that values unity and discipline among its component parties.
“This collaboration at the grassroots level is an example of how GRS component parties can work together effectively for a shared purpose.
“Our focus is not on who we’re up against, but on ensuring every vote is protected and every process runs smoothly.
“What people want is a government that delivers, and that’s what GRS will continue to do…. We want to maintain that trust by working as one team,” he said, adding that GRS has built a record of stable governance and consistent development.
Joniston, the incumbent Kiulu assemblyman, has been credited with championing development in the constituency, from strengthening rural tourism and agriculture to advancing ongoing infrastructure and community planning initiatives that support local livelihoods.
Abdul Kassim said Joniston has earned strong support on the ground for his approachable leadership and consistent efforts in community development.
He said Joniston’s work in transforming Kiulu into a growing tourism and agricultural hub reflects his commitment to improving livelihoods and creating new opportunities for local communities.
Meanwhile, Teo said the turnout of about 200 grassroots leaders from PBS and PGRS for the PACA briefing reflected strong support for the GRS candidate and the readiness of party workers to ensure an effective election operation.
“This workshop helped us align our strategies and make sure everyone understands their roles. It’s part of our joint effort to keep things organised and transparent,” he said.
