Lewis Wong…Federal Government must respects the High Court decision on the 40 per cent Sarah’s revenue entitlement.
KOTA KINABALU : –The Sabah Chinese Cultural Association (SCCA) has warned that any attempt by the Federal Government to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s decision on Sabah’s 40 per cent net revenue rights will be seen as a betrayal of the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The association’s president Lewis Wong said the court’s decision was not just a legal judgment, but a long-overdue recognition of the rights and dignity of the people of Sabah in the Federation of Malaysia.
He pointed out that for decades, the people of Sabah have been denied the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
“This decision proves that the federal government has a moral and constitutional responsibility to fulfil them – no more room for excuses,” he said in a statement today.
Lewis stressed that if the government still chooses to appeal the decision, it will only destroy the people of Sabah’s faith in the sincerity of the national leadership.
“Appeal is not a solution, it is a sign of denial of the MA63 promise. Do not repeat the mistakes of the past. Sabah has been patient enough,” he stressed.
He also urged the Federal Government to immediately implement the court decision and begin negotiations to review the outcome in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
“Sabah is not demanding more, we are only demanding what has been promised. The people want action, not just words. This is the time to prove sincerity and rebuild trust,” he said.
Lewis said that respecting this court decision is a test of the integrity of the country and the government’s true commitment to regional justice.
“The people of Sabah are watching. The whole of Malaysia is watching. Respect the judiciary, uphold MA63 and prove the spirit of unity through action, not just words,” he said
