Christmas deco is common in government offices in Sabah

Looks like a cozy corner all dolled up for the yuletide aeason?

I was seated amidst flickering lights until it dawned on me that what seemed common to my Sabahan mind wasn’t common at all  this isn’t a living room.

It is the waiting area of a governmen ministry office in Kota Kinabalu.

This would have been frowned upon or ordered to be taken off in another state in Malaysia.

Christmas is a public holiday in Malaysia for as long as I can remember.

By ‘public’ I understand that to mean the entire population comprising non Christians as well celebrate the biggest holiday of Christians.

That this deco is put up shows Sabahans’ shared commitment to multiculturism.

In a way, we are showing out collective middle finger to those with supremacist inclination bent on erecting barriers between people of different religions and trying to talk down religions of people unlike them.

This Christmas letscpray to keep the bigots and supremacists away from Sabah.

Merry Christmas.

Editor: Christmas Day (December 25th) is a nationwide public holiday in Malaysia, Christmas Eve (Dec 24th) is a state holiday in Sabah.
