Better Digital Connectivity in POIC Lahad Datu – Madius

KUALA LUMPUR : – The government is enhancing communication and internet infrastructure in the POIC Lahad Datu Industrial Park to ensure that this strategic industrial area has a competitive level of connectivity globally.

Tuaran MP, Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau said the Ministry of Communications has announced that to expand mobile broadband services in the POIC Lahad Datu Industrial Park, a communication tower has been completed under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA).

“Additionally, five existing towers provide 4G services and three communication structures offer 5G services.

“The area is also equipped with fiber optic access for fixed-line broadband services,” he said in a statement here today.

Madius, who is also the Chairman of POIC Lahad Datu, mentioned that this information was provided by the ministry in a written response to his question during the Oral Question Session at the Dewan Rakyat Conference recently.

“ I asked the Minister of Communications to outline the Federal Government’s steps to ensure the connectivity of the POIC Lahad Datu Industrial Park to the rest of the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ministry also informed that as of November 30, 2025, the internet coverage rate in populated areas of Sabah has reached 96.81 percent, an increase from 73.41 percent before the implementation of the JENDELA Plan.

For the Tuaran constituency, the coverage rate has also risen to 97.86 percent from 82.52 percent previously.

“Under the JENDELA implementation in the Tuaran constituency, 27 out of 33 communication towers have been completed and are operational, in addition to 200 upgraded transmission stations, 24,557 premises now have fiber optic access, and 44 locations have enjoyed 5G internet services.
