IJM’s recycling hub in Bandar Utama Sandakan

President MPS Henry Idol and IJM Region Head  Steven Goh, Officiating IJM LAND KITAR SEMULA “GREEN RECYCLE” in collaboration with MPS ‘Trash To Cash’.

SANDAKAN:IJM Land launched and unveiled the recycling hub in Bandar Utama township, Sandakan in an outreach event graced by President of Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan, Henry Idol.

IJM regional head Steven Goh said by creating such a facility, they hoped to make it easy and convenient for residents and the community to segregate and deposit their recyclable items.

Henry Idol was joined by residents who participated in the green recycle drive to mark the hub’s launch, at the same time, to galvanise the community to adopt a greener lifestyle.

Following the high receptivity from the residents, the recycling day event was a success with some 832.5kg of recyclables collected.

The event also featured a kids colouring contest on recycling related topics and a trash to cash program.

An environmental collaborative initiative between IJM Land and Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan,  aim is to nurture better recycling habits among residents, which include rewarding them in the form of cashback.

Goh said this was IJM way of showing their support of their commitment to environmental sustainability.

Overall, the event not only raised awareness on the importance of recycling within the community, but also fostered a sense of community engagement.

Through initiatives such as this, IJM Land continues to lead the way in driving positive change and promoting sustainable living a part of the daily lives of our residents’ lifestyle.

“In our continuing efforts to incorporate all our developments with sustainable design, it is now mandatory for every IJM Land’s residential project to be green-certified, ” Goh added.

He pointed out that at the core of their commitment to sustainability is achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

This commitment drives them to concrete actions, underpinned by a strong sense of purpose and drive to enrich the lives of current and future IJM Land property residents.

Energy efficiency features are considered across our projects.

“We incorporate passive design and green features, as well as conserve the environment in our development projects where possible.”

“From building orientation to placement of windows, natural ventilation, our goal is to deliver our residents a lifestyle of thermal comfort, low energy bills and low greenhouse gas emissions, ” Goh explained.

According to Goh, IJM Land had invested in critical infrastructure such as a main distribution substation and a 5-million-liter water reservoir for the community to ensure stable supply of electricity and water to cater for 3000 units of household.

Disaster prevention measures such as monsoon drains and detention ponds have also been incorporated into the planning process to address the challenges posed by climate change.

IJM Land has planted 3,295 trees in the Bandar Utama township.

This lush planting allows natural shading, creating a serene environment.

In addition, mature trees are conserved or transplanted whenever possible.

Goh said to ensure the sustainability of the neighbourhood’s green spaces, IJM Land has made significant commitments to maintain the landscape and grounds in the township, ensuring the continued flourishing of its natural beauty
