KOTA KINABALU : In a heartwarming celebration of friendship and cooperation, the Philippines and Malaysia commemorated the 60th anniversary of the formal establishment of diplomatic relations Saturday.
This significant milestone marks six decades of strong ties and mutual respect between the two neighboring nations and its people.
Filipinos residing legally in the country particularly Sabah as well as the Sabah Cross Border Trade Association (SCBTA) expressed their admiration and extended congratulations to the past and present leaders of both countries as they celebrated this historic occasion.
SCBTA President Razanah Paimin reminded everyone that bond between the two neighbouring nations was sealed in May 18,1959, and has flourished over the years, reflecting a deep-rooted commitment to collaboration and partnership.
To honor this momentous event, she salute the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur for unveiling a special 60th-anniversary logo that beautifully incorporates the Bunga Raya (Malaysia) and Sampaguita (Philippines), the national flowers of the respective countries.
This symbolic design represents the enduring friendship and shared cultural heritage between the two nations, underscoring their esteemed position within the ASEAN community.
SCBTA is a ROS registeted NGO comprising of locsl businessmen doing commodity trading attivities with the Philippines.
Razanah recalled that the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Malaysia trace back to 1959 when the Philippine legation was established in Kuala Lumpur.
The formalization of this relationship as a consulate on May 18, 1964, marked the beginning of a longstanding partnership founded on trust and cooperation, she added.
Mesnwhile, the specisl 60th anniversary logo was crafted by Mr. Jayven Villamater, a talented Filipino engineer.
The logo was selected from a pool of 54 entries submitted by skilled contestants from both countries.
The emblem’s significance in portraying the strong bond between the Philippines and Malaysia was acknowledged by a panel of judges involved in the selection process.
In celebration of the 60th anniversary, the Philippine Embassy has organized a series of events throughout the year to mark this auspicious occasion.
The festivities commenced with an event titled “Islam: Weaving Stories and Art in the Philippines,” hosted at the renowned Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia on May 16, 2024.
This event showcased the shared cultural heritage and artistic traditions that unite the Philippines and Malaysia, emphasizing the deep connections between the two nations.
Over the years, both countries have collaborated to strengthen bilateral ties, promote peace, ensure regional stability, and foster mutual prosperity.
