Birthdays, foods brings people together

Celebrating with fellow Lions Frances (left) Kathy (2nd right), yours truly who have birthdays in July. Sharing the joy with us is our club president Dr Devadas.

Our club customarily celebrates members’ birthdays every month in conjunction with the long practice of our monthly fellowship, which usually means a dinner, a brief meeting on updates and probably a speaker session.

Having joined the club since 1987, attending such activity is, I must admit, a growing challenge. I can’t expect my fellow Lions who put such gatherings together on a regular basis to not overlook elements such as stimulation, freshness, currency, etc so that old hags like myself remain motivated.

It is in some ways the same as me, at 72, trying to ensure I have a good reason to get up everyday.

It’s either some mundane chores, perhaps a book, or a movie, a drive to one of those quaint little towns around or catch up with old pals over coffee in our favourite kopitiam.

I used to believe the widely held notion that ‘food brings people together’ because who doesn’t like food.

I still like food but not in my old glutton was.

That kind of makes me an unlikeable primadona.

Doesn’t it? Well, like they say, change in life is a certainly like death and income tax.

Happy birthday
