SANDAKAN : – Sepilok Jazz is a shining example of how the arts and conservation can work hand in hand to create awareness while also boosting our tourism industry.

Events like these play at least 24 crucial role in driving local economies and putting Sabah on the map as a destination for eco-tourism and cultural experiences,” said Vivian Wong Shir Yee, Member of Parliament for Sandakan.

Vivian will be attending the Sepilok Jazz 3rd Edition as the Guest of Honour.

Organized by Friends of Sea Turtles Education and Research (FOSTER), the event will take place on 6 and 7 September 2024 at the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sandakan and aims to raise crucial funds for sea turtle conservation on Libaran Island.

“As a representative of the people, I am committed to supporting such initiatives, which not only protect our wildlife but also celebrate our rich cultural heritage,” she added.

During a meeting with Vivian on 22 August 2024, FOSTER representatives, including Cheong Kok Ann and Aliza Alawi, alongside President, Alexander Yee, shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming event.

Alexander emphasized the importance of public support, stating that every ticket purchased contributes directly to the continuation of FOSTER’s vital sea turtle conservation programs.

“The public’s support is essential to keeping our conservation programs alive. Every ticket sold represents a step toward protecting our endangered sea turtles, ensuring their survival for future generations…

“We hope people will come for the jazz but leave with a sense of contribution to something bigger.” Alexander added.

This year’s Sepilok Jazz 3rd Edition is part of the Sandakan Festival Calendar 2024, approved by the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS).

Not only does the event help sustain FOSTER’s sea turtle conservation work, but it also aims to boost Sandakan’s tourism and inspire the younger generation to appreciate both conservation and jazz music, nurturing their talents to new heights.

Don’t miss this chance to enjoy a night of extraordinary music while supporting a critical cause.
