KUALA LUMPUR : – Botanicals Sabah Sdn Bhd (BoSCo), a 100% Sabahan-owned company based in Sabah, has been recognised as one of the top 12 organisations in Malaysia to receive the prestigious Sustainable Community Farming & Food Security Award at the 3rd Malaysian Sustainability Leadership Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 30.

The award, presented  by Datuk Mustapha Mohamed on behalf of the Economic Club Kuala Lumpur, the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI), and the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG), highlights BoSCo’s outstanding contributions to sustainable agriculture and community food security.

Out of 190 organisations evaluated across Malaysia, BoSCo was recognised for its innovative practices and commitment to sustainable farming.

The award celebrates organisations that have made significant impacts in promoting sustainability, enhancing food security, and supporting local communities through agriculture.

The recognition of BoSCo and the other awardees reflects a growing movement in Malaysia towards sustainable agriculture and food security, which are crucial for the nation’s long-term prosperity and environmental health.

Julius Kulip, BoSCo’s Managing Director, announced that the APPGM-SDG Malaysia Secretariat, led by Prof Datuk Dr. Davidson Jayasuria, has invited all award winners to participate in the upcoming SDG Malaysia 2024 Convention.

The convention, which will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Anwar Ibrahim, is scheduled to take place on 17 and 18 September 2024 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur.

Participants from BoSCo’s projects have been allocated a quota of five spots to attend the event, with their flights and participation fully sponsored.

Allan, on the other hand, serves as the company’s Business Strategy and Sustainability Adviser, complementing this with his background in public administration, anthropology and sociology, business management, international trade, and sustainability, making them a formidable team driving BoSCo’s success.

Both Julius and Allan are currently pursuing doctoral research in their respective fields, further strengthening the company’s expertise and commitment to sustainable development.

BoSCo is currently in the early stages of several community-driven projects, including initiatives in community eco-tourism, the cultivation of pegaga and tuhau, and ethnobotanical surveys and identification.

The company is collaborating with the Kg Bongol Tourism Cooperative and its Jawatakuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK) to establish the Mt Kinabalu Bongol Rafflesia Garden, a project aimed at preserving the unique flora, particularly the rafflesia, which is the largest flower in the world and is mainly found in Borneo, while promoting sustainable tourism.

Additionally, the company is working closely with Kota Kinabalu City Hall and the KadazanDusun Chair of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on various projects focusing on cultural preservation and sustainable development.
