Hajiji: Sabah government respects media freedom

He said cooperation between the government and media was crucial in disseminating information on the state’s development.

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government respects media freedom and wants to ensure all voices and views are heard, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglimq Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.

“The state government is steadfast on this,” Hajiji said in a speech at the Kinabalu Press Awards 2024 on Sunday night.

“Hence, we will continue to support the annual Kinabalu Press Awards to promote journalistic excellence and encourage new talents.

Hajiji spoke on the importance of responsible reporting, saying journalists and media organisations must strive to verify information from credible sources and provide balanced coverage.

This will ensure reports are fair and objective, he said.

Hajiji also said he was happy that the media in Sabah has been supportive in their coverage of the state government’s initiatives and plans.

He said he believed cooperation between the government and media was crucial in disseminating information on the state’s development, particularly the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development plan.

Among present was Sabah Journalist Association president Datuk Mugunthan Vanar.
