Projecting oneself as something of importance, confirms their ego

Wonders never creased, the White men said.

If you’re Hakka, you’ve probably been told that the Queen and the weird will always be among us, whether we like it or not.

I received a notice to attend an activity that my Lions club is planning.

There’s a column for me to confirm my attendance and a separate one for those not attending.

No reason was asked.

But I noticed some strange honesty shown by those not coming.

Although the notice did not suggest that those not attending must assign reasons, the respondents were forthcoming with ‘ourstation’, ‘in KL’ ‘travelling …’ ‘attending another meeting ….’, etc etc.

I hope these people become aware that in trying to project themselves as something of importance, they confirm their lack of depth and ego.

I always wondered what went through the minds of those people so willing to answer when no one was asking.

Have they ever considered the implied message they conveyed with their unsolicited information.

For example, I’m tickled when a decision-making member gave his reason for absence as ‘attending another meeting’.

Obviously this chap can’t plan his schedule, doesn’t know his priorities and  takes his decision-making role lightly.

Why can’t he simply convey a ‘no, I’m not attending ‘ message?

Hey, nobody asked nor want to know. OK?

And yes, I know you fly often and all over.

But I didn’t ask nor I’m interested in where you are on my meeting day.

The next time you can’t come, just say so lah.

You’re my friend.

But your itinerary is of no relevance to me or the club, what more when you’re going to be absent.
