PENAMPANG : – Pejabat ADUN Kapayan successfully organised the Sports Carnival 5.0 at the Penampang Sports Complex today.
Opening the carnival, Kepayan Lawmaker (ADUN), Jannie Lasimbang said,“Sports play a crucial role in promoting physical health, helping us stay active, build mental resilience, discipline, teamwork, as well as promote harmony.”
“Engaging in sports can also foster social connections, bringing people from different backgrounds together and building a community spirit.”
This is the 5th year of the annual Sports Carnival, where four type of sports are organised simultaneously – basketball, ping pong, volleyball and futsal.
Basketball and ping pong are managed by its respective organisation, which means we have indirectly supported them over the past 5 Sports Carnivals.
The Penampang Basketball Association brought in 16 teams, with a total of 70 players.
“The Alan Table Tenis Club, which has been collaborating with us brought 80 players, mostly primary and secondary schools students.
Futsal successfully brought 16 teams involving 160 players, while 14 teams of 140 all-women players competed in the volleyball open.
“We will endeavour to form an association for futsal and volleyball in Penampang after this since its a popular sport among youths, Jannie said.
She expressed her sincere appreciation to the Penampang Sports Board for upgrading all the courts this year.
“Thank you also to RELA and Penampang Red Crescent Association for their services.”
“I am proud that my ADUN office has continued to hold the Sports Carnival, ” she added .
Participants said Penampang is making a name in the sports arena “because of my dedication in promoting sports through this Carnival and providing funding to schools sports competitions”.
