TUARAN : – After 48 years as a sub-district, it is time for Tamparuli to be upgraded to a full district, said United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation’s (Upko) 17th Sabah election candidate Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.
“I am offering this struggle for reform in the Tamparuli state constituency so that it can be upgraded to a full district.
“Once it is upgraded, the district’s administrative system must also be reorganised by planning development at the village, mukim, and district levels,” he said, highlighting Upko’s manifesto for Tamparuli.
According to the Tuaran MP, the objective of the restructuring is to translate national and Sabah policies into reality through programmes and projects that will be considered under the allocations of the federal and Sabah Governments.
“After the Tamparuli Sub-District is upgraded to a full district, I am once again offering reform by establishing the Tamparuli District Council.
“A Local Plan will be prepared through a planning process that requires the appointment of a professional consultancy body.
“This comprehensive Local Plan is important because it can attract both domestic and foreign investors.
“This will have a positive impact as an engine of economic growth for the Tamparuli state constituency,” Madius explained.
With Tamparuli as a full district, he said it will be developed as a hub for agricultural production, particularly fruits, paddy, vegetables, and various short-term and long-term crops.
These agricultural products will be processed into downstream products that will become a source of pride for the people of Tamparuli, he added.
This initiative, he pointed out, requires a well-structured development plan as it must be based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
Meanwhile, Madius said that if elected to lead the Tamparuli state constituency, he will ensure the people’s needs are met.
“As of the completion of this manifesto, the people’s needs are still piling up at the Tuaran Parliamentary Service Centre, particularly those involving Municipal Council road infrastructure, village linkage roads, and agricultural roads,” he said.
He will also pay attention to issues concerning water supply, electricity, dilapidated houses, land, and many other matters affecting the community.
He said the issues listed in the state’s reference to the Sabah State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) serve as the basis for obtaining allocations from the government.
