KOTA KINABAL : – Former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Secretary Sazalye Donol joined Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) yesterday, describing the party led by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as the only political platform that genuinely fights for the rights of the people and the state of Sabah.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Shafie at the Warisan headquarters, Sazalye said his decision came after a long period of reflection on the current political direction, particularly concerning the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the 40% special revenue entitlement for Sabah.
“Warisan is the only party that shares the same vision and principles as I do, and my fellow friends. I see that Warisan doesn’t just talk. It acts, especially when it comes to implementing MA63,” he said.
He said Warisan had demonstrated its commitment to the people through concrete actions during its administration from 2018 to 2020, including the issuance of land titles to local Sabahans.
“If Warisan was truly a party for illegal immigrants, as some have claimed, then the Warisan government would not have given land titles to Sabahans. The facts speak for themselves,” he stressed.
Sazalye explained that his decision to leave PKR was not out of hostility, but because he wanted to be part of a platform that is cleaner, more transparent, and consistent in its principles.
“The old one wasn’t bad, but I wanted a cleaner room, a party that truly upholds the unity of the Sabah people. That’s why I chose Warisan,” he said.
Commenting on Datuk Ewon Benedick’s recent announcement that he would resign from the Federal Cabinet over the 40% revenue issue, Sazalye dismissed it as a “political gimmick” ahead of the coming state election.
“Ewon previously said he would resign if the Federal Government appealed the court’s decision. But there was no appeal. To me, this is just a political gimmick. It’s a move to portray himself as a hero of Sabah’s rights,” he said.
Sazalye also expressed disappointment with the Prime Minister’s remarks, which he said reflected confusion over the court’s ruling on Sabah’s 40% entitlement. He reiterated that Warisan has been consistent from the start in defending Sabah’s rights under MA63.
