Automatic dismissal for 6 GRS members contesting as Independent

KOTA KINABALU : – The Sabah State Election (PRN) this time saw six former elected representatives and members of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component parties choose to contest as independent candidates, thus challenging the decision of the coalition leadership.

GRS chairman, Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Hajj Noor previously stressed that any component party member who contests as an independent candidate will be immediately dismissed, without exception and without room for negotiation.

Here is a list of individuals who are currently contesting as independent candidates:

  1. Fairuz Renddan — DUN N08 Pintasan
  2. Rina Jainal — DUN N70 Kukusan
  3. Maijol Mahap — DUN N06 Bandau
  4. Roland Chia — DUN N18 Inanam
  5. Mohd Ismail Ayob — DUN N58 Lamag
  6. Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari — DUN N21 Petagas

Their actions are seen as a reaction to the candidate selection process in GRS, thus opening a new episode of internal turmoil in the coalition.

The automatic dismissal awaiting them also signals the GRS leadership’s firm stance on party discipline.

The question now is: will this move split the vote, weaken GRS, or usher in a new wave in Sabah politics?

Everything now lies in the hands of the voters.
