KOTA KINABALU : – Datuk Dr Roland Chia said the automatic dismissal of Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) who are contesting as Independent in the November 29 polls does not applied to him.
GRS chief Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Hajj Noor on Saturday said that any component party member who contests as an independent candidate will be immediately dismissed,
“I had resign before the Nov 15 Nomination Day, ” Dr Chis said when connected on Sunday.
Dr Chia was one of the former GRS members who are contesting solo in the coming GE17.
Political secretary to Hajjjj before the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly, Dr Chia is one of the 13 candidates contesting in the Inanam constituency.
The others GRS members contesting as Independent are Fairuz Renddan (Pintasan), Rina Jainal ( Kukusan), Maijol Mahap Mohd Ismail Ayob (Lamag) and Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari (Petagas).
The automatic dismissal awaiting them signals the GRS leadership’s firm stance on party discipline.
Dr Chia further said that his decision to stand as an independent candidate is to respect the wishes of the people of N18 Inanam.
“A significant segment of the N18 Inanam voters have expressed their wishes and support for me to represent them in Kolombong, Inanam and Menggatal, ” he added.
“Therefore , I have formally tendered my resignation from Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah effective 14 November 2025 . “
“I am contesting as an independent to exercise my democratic rights as a Sabahan and Malaysian in this Sabah State Election., ” he said.
