Washing of feet in Inanam Parish

Fr David Sham washed the feet of Joylon Dolius during White Thursday

INANAM – Rev Fr David Sham took almost until midnight to baptize 59 catechumens of St Catherine’s Church, here, Mar 30, 2024.

This was among the busy schedules the Inanam Parish’s Rector has to dutifully performed during the Holy Week of Easter.

During Maundy Thursday, Fr Sham washed the feet of 12 people. The Holy Thursday foot-washing ceremony is hallmark of the Holy Week which recalled the foot-washing Jesus Christ performed on his 12 apostles at their Last Supper together before he was crucified.

The 12 who had their feet washed by Fr Sham were:

1.Blasius Ampun (Hospitality)
2.Henry Utoi ( KUK Bambangan)
3.James Ninis (KUK Kitobu/Kawakaan)
4.Fedelio Ray Bin Francis (KUK 4T & SB)
5.Wenceslause Jaimin (Kateketikal)
6.Terence Tsen ( Devine Mercy)
7. Laurensius Yohanes (KUK PDM)
8.Lozie Majabin (Sukan)
9.Joylon Dolius (Caritas)
10.Noah Osmund (Liturgi)
11.John Biging (KUK Nountun)
12. Glen Albert (Belia)

Fr Sham told the newly-baptised that baptism by water is a sacrament of initiation into the life of the children of God.

It configures the person to Christ and obliges the Christian to share in the church’s apostolic and missionary activity.

Meanwhile, 10 of the newly-baptised were from St Mary’s Chapel, Kionsom.

They were catechumens 2023-24 under the spiritual guidance of the chapel’s Catholic Community Committee chairperson, Alice Dosis William.

And as ever year, during the Holy Easter Week, the church was full to capacity during Easter Sunday Mass.

Fr Sham celebrated Mass at St Catherine, Inanam while Fr Mattheus Luta led the Masses at Good Shepherd Church, Manggatal.

Fr Sylvester Wong led the Holy Mass at Holy Family Church, Telipok and Fr Postinus Kurup led the celebrations at Divine Mercy Church, KKIP.
