Shafie denies opposition lawmakers in Sabah receive development fund

KOTA KINABALU: The President of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, denies that opposition state assemblymen in Sabah receive annual development funding from the state government.

He said that special allocations may be channelled through the district office, but it is certain that “opposition assemblymen do not receive any allocations for development in their respective areas.

“The portrayal made on social media that opposition assemblymen receive development funds is untrue,” he said.

Mohd Shafie made these remarks after attending the state assembly session here today.

Yesterday, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was quoted as saying that the special annual allocations for assemblymen are distributed fairly to government and opposition representatives in Sabah.

Hajiji said that the state government has allocated a total of RM188.2 million for Sabah assemblymen this year.

The state government does not exclude areas represented by opposition assemblymen from receiving these special allocations.

“If there is a need, opposition assemblymen can directly apply to the government or through me, as we have no problem receiving and considering such requests,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafie also raised the issue of leakages, particularly involving the Sabah Development Bank.

He urged the state government to take firm action against borrowers who fail to repay their debts, thereby ensuring that they are repaid within a reasonable timeframe.
