PENAMPANG : In a poignant display of solidarity and support, Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang has generously allocated a substantial financial aid of RM250,000 to four esteemed associations dedicated to serving disabled individuals within the Sabah community.

The recipients of this benevolent contribution include the Sabah Society for the Deaf, Sabah Society for the Blind, Penampang Community Rehabilitation Programme, and Seri Mengasih Centre, underscoring Jannie’s unwavering commitment to uplifting all sectors of society, particularly the disabled (OKU) populace.

The donation ceremony, held at the UPPM Kapayan Office in Penampang, not only symbolised a gesture of compassion.

It also shed light on the formidable challenges faced by associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in providing essential support to individuals with disabilities, a struggle further exacerbated by the financial constraints brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Jannie’s proactive stance in extending financial assistance to these organisations resonates with a broader call for enhanced governmental, private sector, and public backing for initiatives aimed at empowering and advocating for the disabled community in Sabah.

With a keen awareness of the escalating number of disabled individuals in the region, the assemblywoman stressed the urgency of channeling resources and attention towards associations and NGOs dedicated to delivering crucial training and guidance to the disabled population.

Recognising the pivotal role played by these organizations in fostering inclusivity and empowerment, Jannie emphasised the need for collaborative endeavours to secure funding and amplify financial resources to sustain their pivotal programs and services.

Her advocacy for tapping into international funding sources to fortify the capacity of associations supporting disabled individuals underscores a strategic approach to addressing the evolving needs of this vulnerable segment of society.

The presence of esteemed community leaders and officials at the donation ceremony, including Community Development Leader Cyril Liew, Community Development Officer Kenneth Wong, ADUN Kapayan Welfare Officer Jenny Boniol, and representatives from the Kapayan Assemblyman’s Office, underscored a shared commitment to championing the rights and well-being of the disabled community in Sabah.

Jannie’s  steadfast dedication to advocating for the marginalised and amplifying their voices stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment for individuals with disabilities, heralding a future characterided by inclusivity and support for all members of society.
