Historic appointment of Sabahan as DG of Malaysian Farmers’  Organisation Authority

By Nikko Fabian
KOTA KINABALU : The Sabah State Farmers’ Organisation (PPN) has warmly welcomed the groundbreaking appointment of Sabah native Amir Matamin as the Director General of the Malaysian Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP).

This significant milestone marks the first time a Sabahan has been appointed to the highest position within the LPP, signifying a momentous achievement for Sabah and regional representation within the agricultural sector.

Datuk Mohd Nazri Abdullah, the chairman of Sabah PPN, expressed his delight at Amir’s appointment, emphasizing his long-standing acquaintance with him since 1993 when LPP was established in Sabah.

Mohd Nazri commended Amir for his exceptional qualities as a young officer, highlighting his strong leadership skills, respect for others, humility, sociability, willingness to assist, and commitment to educating others about the role of LPP as a government agency overseeing Farmers’ Organizations at various levels.

Amir’s unique distinction lies in being the only Director General of LPP Malaysia who has not previously served as a director of LPP in any state across the country.

This exceptional achievement underscores his outstanding character and effective leadership, culminating in his elevation to the prestigious position of Director General within LPP.

Amir’s appointment comes as he succeeds Datuk Azulita Salim, who has retired from the position. Mohd Nazri expressed optimism that with Amir at the helm, the government will be better positioned to enhance the socioeconomic status of the people in East Malaysia and the nation as a whole, particularly benefiting the farming community.

This appointment symbolizes a significant step towards empowering local talent and fostering regional representation within key leadership roles, signaling a path towards greater inclusivity and progress within the agricultural sector.

The appointment of Sabahan Amir Matamin as the Director General of LPP marks a historic moment for Sabah and the agricultural industry, showcasing the recognition of local talent and expertise on a national level.
