KOTA KINABALU : Malaysia’s tourism sector is poised for significant growth, with the potential to attract a higher influx of international visitors, according to the Malaysian Tourism Federation (MTF).

Its president Datuk Tan Kok Liang said country’s positive ratings and recognition by esteemed institutions like Oxford Economics are expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering tourism.

Eleanorstong briefly on the issue of ‘Impact of Ratings on Tourism’, he said the recognition bestowed upon Malaysian cities by prestigious institutions holds the promise of elevating the nation’s appeal as a premier travel destination.

Such accolades not only validate the attractiveness, infrastructure, and quality of life within the cities but also serve as a magnet for curious travelers.

“The acknowledgment of Malaysia’s cities among the top 1,000 globally can enhance the country’s brand image, making it more appealing to international tourists….Moreover, this recognition has the potential to attract a broader spectrum of visitors, including those attending international events, conferences, and business travelers, thus boosting tourism revenue significantly,” he stressed.

Replying to a question on improving tourists’ view of Malaysia, Tan also stressed that to further enhance tourists’ perception of Malaysia and solidify its position as a preferred travel spot, several key strategies can be implemented:

• Enhanced Infrastructure and Connectivity: Investing in upgrading transportation networks, roads, and air connectivity will ensure seamless travel experiences for tourists within and between cities.

• Cultural Preservation and Promotion: Showcasing Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage through festivals, museums, and curated cultural tours will highlight the country’s unique identity, attracting cultural enthusiasts.

• Sustainability Initiatives: Promoting eco-friendly tourism practices and sustainable development will appeal to environmentally conscious travelers, positioning Malaysia as a responsible and nature-friendly destination.

• Safety and Cleanliness: Ensuring that tourist areas are safe, well-maintained, and clean will significantly enhance the overall visitor experience, fostering a sense of security and comfort among tourists.

• Digital Presence and Marketing: Investing in robust digital marketing campaigns and maintaining a strong online presence will help reach a global audience, effectively showcasing Malaysia’s diverse attractions and captivating offerings to potential visitors worldwide.

As Malaysia continues to harness its potential as a top-tier travel destination, the focus on enhancing infrastructure, promoting sustainability, and elevating its cultural offerings will play a pivotal role in shaping a positive and alluring image for tourists, setting the stage for sustainable tourism growth and success.
