Augustine Tuuga retires as head of Sabah Wildlife Dept

Tuuga handing over duties to new director Roland Oliver Niun on Wednesday.

KOTA KINABALU: Augustine Tuuga has stepped down as Sabah Wildlife Department director after 36 years with the state authority.

He will be replaced by Roland Oliver Niun, who is currently deputy director.

Tuuga, 60, who clocked out on Wednesday (Aug 28), served in various capacities including as a wildlife officer in Tabin and being involved in prosecutions in wildlife crime cases.

He was also involved in the implementation of the state’s geographic information system (GIS), and liaising with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Tuuga thanked his colleagues for their support and cooperation throughout the years, as well as the state government during his tenure as director.
