Implement MA63 without delay: Warisan

Mohd Azis Jamman…Implementing MA63 is a constitutional obligation

KOTA KINABALU: In celebration of Malaysia’s 67th Independence Day, the Warisan urges the government to act on the Malaysia Agreement 1963, or MA63, immediately.

Mohd Azis Jamman, the Warisan Information Chief, stated that it is crucial for the nation to remember the agreement that laid the foundation for Malaysia’s formation.

“I firmly believe that Sabah’s rights must be fulfilled without hesitation.

“MA63 was signed, agreed upon, and finalised in 1963 by leaders from Sabah, Sarawak (then Singapore), and Malaya, leading to the establishment of Malaysia.

“Implementing MA63 is a constitutional obligation and does not require further discussion. The time to act is now,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Azis reminded national leaders that the agreement is not just about providing 40 percent of special revenue for the state.

He added that MA63 also defines the allocation of funds between the federal and state governments through the Federal List, State List, and Concurrent List, as outlined in the federal constitution.

“This list is enshrined in the Constitution and is designed to ensure that both national and local needs are adequately funded while respecting the autonomy and special considerations of different states, especially Sabah and Sarawak.

“It is essential to fulfil and respect what is already stated in the Malaysian constitution.

“There should be no more committees, no more discussions, no more negotiations, and no more meetings,” he stated.

The former Sepanggar MP also called for the people of Sabah to unite in urging the federal government to respect and implement MA63
