Politically motivated and apple polishers

CC Pung’s dose of philosophical musings.
Justice of Peace
Tokoh Wartawan Sabah and FT Labuan.

It’s very common to hear half-wit politicians and clever-by-half political commentators dismissing a statement or claim or allegation by their opponents as ‘politically motivated’.

And by that, they implied there was wrong-doing or sinister purpose.

‘Political motivation’ is no crime.

With everything around Sabah seemingly linked to politics, politicians and politikus.

Its hard to keep politics out of one’s motivation.

More importantly, the act making a corruption allegation against a bunch of sitting Sabah politicians is not a crime in whatever shape or form.

To try to diminish it by calling it ‘politically motivated’ is cheap defence, like firing blanks.

The substance of the allegation is not the reason for it being made public, but the allegation of crime.

There’s the forest.

There’s the trees. Make the distinction.

What does it matter if the accuser was indeed motivated by politics?

So what if he has a prior deal with some rival politicians wishing ill of the politicians targeted in the allegations?

Those implicated are elected govt officials.

They are a fair game in an arena of unscrupulousness.

I feel therefore that those who tried to trivialise the recent allegation that the Sabah chief minister was linked to some corruption over mining licensing  were clueless apple polishers wanting to look supportive in the CM’s good books.

Nobody would have felt anything amiss if they had kept quiet.

The CM is innocent until proven otherwise.

The anti corruption people are investigating.

The chap making the accusation is not known to be a politician.

But given that the State election is near and Sabahans’ fondness for political theatre, the case is bound to take in increasing political flavour.

May be ‘politically motivated’ is something I am yet to wrap my head around.

But so far it’s just to me a pair of words that geniuses around me tossed around trying to make themselves look clever.

I may no may not be politically motivated.

So what?

I’m motivated by cynical pleasures derived from calling the pseudo intellects morons and nincompoops.

So what?

Since when does describing another’s motivation as political make one clever.

Politically motivated my foot!
