Ewon heads special monitoring committee to solve Sabah problematic projects

PENAMPANG : – A special monitoring committee has been set up to solve 400 delayed, stalled, or problematic projects in Sabah.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in a meeting last month, appointed Entrepreneur Development ad Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedict to lead the committee.

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey will represent the State Government in the committee which will hold its first meeting in January.

Ewon who was met at the Penampang Member of Parliament’s Christmas Open House in Buhavan Square here today, said the setting up of the special monitoring committee was a follow up to the meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof last month.

“Starting in January next year, I will chair a special monitoring committee as a follow-up to a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah last month.

He instructed me to lead this special monitoring meeting together with Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey. This is because there are approximately 400 delayed, stalled, or problematic projects in Sabah.

“As a leader from Sabah, it is my responsibility to be part of the solution. This requires close cooperation with the state government, especially technical departments, and also collaboration with contractors as a significant portion of the delays in these projects is due to contractor-related issues,” he said.

Ewon said that in addition to problems caused by weather and disasters such as the Covid-19 pandemic, many projects in Sabah have been classified as delayed or problematic, with some yet to even start, including in Penampang.

“That is why I take seriously the mandate entrusted to me. I have established a monthly meeting with Datuk Shahelmey and technical departments in Sabah to assist the state and federal governments in accelerating solutions to the issues causing these delays or setbacks in these projects, as the people are waiting,” he added.
