KOTA KINABALU : – The forthcoming state election (PRN17) is a pivotal opportunity for Sabahans to shape the future of state.
Former assemblyman for Petagas Datuk James Ligunjang called on the rakyat to be united in supporting the dedicated leaders of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition state government.
“They are committed to driving economic growth and fostering social harmony among the people of Sabah, ” the state ex lawmaker for Petagas said in a statement today.
The 2025 Sabah state election will elect the 17th 73 members Sabah State Legislative Assembly.
It must be held by 9 December 2025 at the latest, persuant to clause 21(4) of the Constitution of Sabah.
“As we bid farewell to 2024, let us take a moment to reflect on the valuable lessons and memories it has brought us politically, socially, and economically,” he said.
He pointed out that amid ongoing discussions about Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement as outlined in the Federal Constitution, it is crucial for the Federal Government, as the guardian of these rights, to heed the demands of the State Government and the people of Sabah.
Ligunjang, who is a Justice of Peace, said the promise to resolve this entitlement must transform from mere rhetoric into genuine action without further delay.
“With the arrival of 2025, we hope to see this long-awaited wish become a reality.”
He further said In the realm of education and youth development, the 2025 Sabah Budget reflects commendable commitments by the State Government aimed at empowering our younger generations through scholarships and financial aid.
“This is a significant advancement compared to previous administrations, ” he said.
An allocation of RM127 million is set to assist over 10,000 students.
He said programs such as SENTOSA provide RM300 to each student, while BUDI grants RM2,000 and RM1,500 to degree and diploma students, respectively, easing their transition into higher education.
The SUBFLY program offers RM600 to students for travel back to Sabah and their kampongs during semester holidays, strengthening community ties.
Additionally, the SUKSES initiative allocates RM3,000 per school to enhance school activities, with a total of RM26.06 million designated to support nearly 291,000 students with the necessary educational resources.
“These efforts are vital for improving student performance in both urban and rural areas of Sabah.”
According to Ligunjang, these initiatives underscore the commitment of the State Government of Sabah to nurture the educational aspirations and economic potential of youth.
” It is ensuring the students have the support needed to thrive in their academic journeys and to play a crucial role in the development of Sabah’s future,” he said.
