Salleh and Japlin in Usukan
KOTA KINABALU : – The Usukan state constituency is expected to see two local respected leaders battling it out in the forthcoming PRN17 elections.
Sabah Umno chief Datuk Bung Mokhtar had announced incumbent assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak defending the seat while Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) head for Usukan Datuk Japlin Akim is likely the coalition candidate.
PGRS headed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor is the backbone of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
Japlin who had in previous elections won Usukan on Barisan Nasional (UMNO) ticket claimed that the seat is PGRS stronghold.
Japlin said the GRS was the most qualified and suitable to represent the people in the area.
“We will not compromise again, we will ensure that Usukan belongs to GRS in the next election and this is our stance,” he said.
Japlin said this when officiating the Solidarity Seminar Ahead of the 17th Presidential Election at the Datuk Japlin Open Hall, Kota Belud near here, yesterday.
He said that PGRS Usukan has made all preparations and will not back down again, they must continue to move forward and will ensure that the Usukan state seat belongs to GRS.
He said that through GRS representatives alone, all the problems and needs of the people in the Usukan DUN will be better addressed, as well as improving the facilities available.
This will be one of the interesting features in the forthcoming state elections. UMNO is part of the State Government.
And by right Usukan should be contested by Salleh being the incumbent.
But statements from Japlin lately indicated that GRS will not compromise and let UMNO contest.
GRS will be fielding it’s candidate, whoever be candidates, be it from UMNO or other political parties
