GRS deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, says Sabahan parties should be United
KOTA KINABALU : – Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has opened the door for Warisan to work with the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
“The possibility is always there … after all, politics is the ‘art of the possible’,” Kitingan, the GRS deputy chairman said on Monday.
“Local parties should be united. Make unity a duty.”
Dr Jeffrey, who is the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president, was asked about the possibility of GRS collaborating with Warisan.
“The possibility of the ruling coalition working with Warisan ‘is always there,” he added.
On Sunday, Warisan president Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal said GRS had turned down numerous invitations to discuss working with the party for the upcoming state election.
The former chief minister said it would be difficult for Sabahans to realise the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 if they were not united.
Earlier today, a Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) leader suggested that Warisan apply to become a GRS component party after its repeated offers to cooperate with the ruling coalition fell on deaf ears.
PBS Youth chief Christoper Mandut said if Warisan submits its application, it would be raised at the GRS Supreme Council for an “open discussion”.
He added that if Warisan is genuinely ready to open a new chapter for the benefit of Sabah, PBS welcome this intention.
