KOTA KINABALU : – The Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sabah successfully convened its 2025 Convention today.
The youth’s wing is ushering in a new era with leadership as 25-year-old Chan Loong Wei, who officially assumes the role of Chief, after leading a unanimously elected leadership team.
The convention was officiated by DAP Sabah Chairman Phoong Jin Zhe and attended by DAPSY National Chief Woo Kah Leong, DAPSY National Secretary Louis Lim, NEC Member Roderick Wong, and DAPSY National Varsity Affairs Director Koh Ling Xian, alongside senior DAP Sabah leaders.
In his inaugural address, Chan expressed heartfelt appreciation to the members for their dedication and to those who traveled from afar to ensure the convention’s success.
“I extend my deepest gratitude to Vivian Wong, the outgoing DAPSY Sabah Chief and current DAP Sabah Secretary, for her invaluable contributions and leadership over the past three years.’
,”Her mentorship and support have been instrumental during my tenure as her Secretary in DAPSY Sabah,” said Chan.
Chan also acknowledged the services of the outgoing leadership team, including Deputy Chief Kaven Lee, Vice Chief Oscar Sia, and Political Education Director Peter Soo, who have transitioned to roles within DAP Sabah.
He further expressed gratitude to former DAPSY Sabah leaders, including Phoong Jin Zhe, Jolin Puan, and George Wong, for their guidance and support in grooming him for this position.
Chan emphasized the importance of serving with sincerity, maintaining integrity, and upholding accountability by ensuring the separation of government and party funds.
“We must lead by example, DAPSY must continue the good practice of DAP where we do not abuse our government positions for the benefit of the party, we must continue to uphold integrity and show to the public that we are different from others,”
“To support DAPSY Sabah’s operations and enhance its services to the people, I humbly announce a personal contribution of RM10,000.”
Chan laid out his vision for DAPSY Sabah, prioritizing grassroots engagement, proactive problem-solving for community challenges, and unwavering adherence to party principles.
“Positions come and go, but our principles and commitment to the people must remain steadfast. This party is rooted in grassroots power, and our mission is to build a better Sabah and nation for generations to come,” he added.
Chan called on members to steer clear of unnecessary political conflicts, urging them instead to focus on serving the people. However, he assured that DAPSY would stand firm against baseless attacks on the party.
“We will not provoke others, but if any party slanders or attacks us, I will be the first to defend our dignity and name. This is my commitment as the new DAPSY Sabah Chief. We are not provocative, but we are not afraid to stand up for our rights,” Chan asserted.
He also urged members to unite behind DAP Sabah Chairman Phoong Jin Zhe, emphasizing the need to prepare the party to face the next state election as a cohesive and united front.
