Dr Roland Chia…the Pan Borneo Highway linking Putatan to Inanam, Manggatal and Tebobon, is currently 86 percent complete.
KOTA KINABALU : – The government has approved a RM30 million project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion along Jalan Kionsom and Jalan Tuaran, addressing long-standing concerns for road users in the area.
Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Datuk Dr Roland Chia, announced that the project, expected to be completed within three years, will remove a 40-year-old roundabout and introduce additional lanes with multiple traffic lights to improve traffic flow.
“Traffic congestion in this area has been a major issue, and this project is a significant step toward resolving it. Once completed, it will greatly enhance the commuting experience for road users,” Dr Chia said during a press conference after the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Inanam Chinese New Year Open House near Menggatal on Sunday.
He also highlighted the progress of the Pan Borneo Highway stretch linking Putatan to Inanam, Manggatal and Tebobon, which is currently 86 percent complete.
The highway is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year or early next year, further improving traffic connectivity in the region.
“These initiatives reflect the State Government’s commitment to infrastructure development under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day, but we are making steady progress,” Dr Chia added.
The former Inanam assemblyman, who is the Gagasan Rakyat Inanam division chief, pledged to focus on legacy issues such as infrastructure, water, and electricity, as well as comprehensive urban and rural planning to accommodate the rapid development in the area.
“Proper planning is crucial to ensure balanced growth in housing, commercial, business and industrial sectors. Political stability is key to sustaining economic growth and improving the livelihoods of our people,” he said.
The Chinese New Year open house event saw an overwhelming turnout of over 3,000 attendees, showcasing strong support for the party and the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government.
Dr Chia emphasized that the event was not only a celebration of the festive season but also a demonstration of solidarity with the Chief Minister and the GRS administration.
“We are here to stay, and we hope this encouraging support will translate into success in the upcoming state elections,” he concluded.
