SANDAKAN: Media practitioners have been reminded to discharge their duties responsibly.
Sandakan Media Association (PEMASSA) Honorary Advisor Thomas Lau Chi Keong disclosed at a media conference after attending a PEMASSA event on Saturday.
As a responsible media person, you should be held accountable to inform and relay the facts, not to present false information that can mislead the public, he added.
The media need to stand against false news narrative and also refrain from presenting one side of the story, Lau said.
Media practitioners play an important role in assisting to disseminate information on government’s development agendas to the people, he said.
In his speech, PEMASSA chairman James Leong said members’ welfare remains a priority to the PEMASSA office bearers.
“We will work together for the benefit and interest of PEMASSA members,” James added.
At Saturday’s PEMASSA Family Night and Annual General Meeting, the committee headed by James Leong was unanimously returned unopposed by members attending the event.
This is James’ fourth term helming the association which have 33 members comprising of representatives from the local print and electronic media.
