Tun Musa Aman visits RM60 million Sandakan Islamic Centre project

SANDAKAN : – Construction of the Sandakan Islamic Centre began in 2017 with a budget of RM60 million on a 5.2-hectare site.

However, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in the state government leadership at the time.

If these two major obstacles had not occurred, the project intended to be an iconic landmark for the Sandakan district would have been completed within the planned four-year timeframe.

Today, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, who conceptualized the project, visited the Islamic Centre site after receiving a briefing from Director of the State Economic Planning Unit, Datuk Jasmine Teo, along with the architect and contractor involved.

Once completed, the Islamic Centre will serve as a focal point for religious and cultural activities, promoting Islamic teachings, values, and traditions.

It will provide a space for prayers, educational programs, and community gatherings, strengthening unity among the Muslim community in Sandakan and the surrounding areas.

With its unique architectural design, the Islamic Centre is expected to become a major attraction for tourists, boosting tourism-related industries such as hospitality, transportation, and local businesses.

Beyond being a place of worship, the Islamic Centre will serve as a platform for social welfare programs, charity initiatives, and skills development courses.

It will offer support services such as counseling, youth programs, and assistance for the underprivileged, reinforcing community development efforts in the district.

The construction of the Islamic Centre will contribute to the overall development of Sandakan’s urban landscape.

In light of its religious , economic, and social impact, the completion of the Islamic Centre is highly anticipated.

Efforts must be made to overcome the delays and expedite the project’s progress.
