David Chan…Multiple parking applications confuses and burdens Sabah consumers.

KOTA KINABALU: Local authorities must unify the state’s disparate digital parking systems into a single platform to improve efficiency and user experience, a consumer group urges.
National Consumer Foundation Sabah Chapter chairman David Chan said the current system forces motorists to use multiple parking apps, as each district operates its own platform.
“The current practice requires motorists to download and manage several applications just to park in different areas, creating unnecessary inconvenience.
“Despite having one state government, Sabah operates fragmented digital parking systems, leading to confusion and inefficiencies,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 26).
Chan said a unified system would improve user convenience, reduce administrative redundancy, and enhance overall parking management.
“Consumers should not have to deal with multiple registrations, different top-up requirements, and unfamiliar interfaces when parking within the same state. The lack of standardisation also creates challenges for visitors travelling between districts for work or business,” he added.
He pointed out that in places like Kuala Lumpur and China, apps like the Touch ‘n Go eWallet are commonly used for seamless cashless transactions, including parking payments.

“We urge the state government to take immediate action to consolidate all digital parking systems under a single, user-friendly platform.
“This will simplify parking, improve compliance, reduce technical issues, and enhance revenue collection for local authorities,” he said.
Chan stressed that a unified digital parking system would be a win-win solution for both consumers and the government.
“We hope the authorities will act swiftly to resolve this issue and prioritise consumer convenience,” he said.
