Phoong left meeting Dr Dzulkefly in Putrajaya on Thursday.
KUALA LUMPUR : – Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship and Luyang State Assemblyman, Phoong Jin Zhe, met with Health Minister Datuk Seri Haji Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad in Putrajaya to raise on the long-standing issue of building a multi-storey parking facility at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (QEH I) in Kota Kinabalu.
During the one-hour discussion, Phoong highlighted that the lack of parking at QEH I has been a persistent problem for years, affecting patients, hospital staff, and causing severe traffic congestion.
He urged the ministry to prioritize the matter and push for a solution because there has been past experience of ambulances unable to enter the hospital swiftly due to traffic congestion.
In response, Dr Dzulkefly acknowledged the severity of the issue and revealed that the MOH has already identified a site for the parking facility.
MOH plans to construct a multi-level parking facility with minimum capacity of 4,500 bays, which is currently awaiting policy and concept approval from the Central Agency.
Phoong expressed his appreciation for the minister’s commitment and emphasized the need for swift action.
He also raised concerns about other healthcare facilities in Luyang, including Queen Elizabeth Hospital II, Luyang Clinic, and Jalan Kebajikan Health Clinic, urging upgrades to worn out infrastructure and better planning to address parking shortages.
Phoong thanked Dr Dzulkefly for his proactive approach and pledged to maintain close communication with the ministry to ensure concrete progress for the benefit of the people in Kota Kinabalu and Luyang.
