SANDAKAN : – The Sandakan Heritage Walk, jointly organised with St Cecilia’s Alumnue, attracted 102 participants including several foreign tourists.
Present to support the walk is Wilson Thomas, Deputy President 1 of Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) representing Walter Kenson, the new MPS President.
Earlier at the briefing session at Hotel Sandakan Ballroom, Lai King Hang Founder and Chairman of Sandakan Heritage Trail mentioned about idea of identifying heritage trees along the trail which is a brainchild of Walter Kenson.
Before the official start off, the crowd gathered at the No. 1 heritage site, Masjid Jamik, outside Hotel Sandakan where several big trees were being tagged with QR code which can be easily scan to obtain more information of the trees indicated.
Lai added that eventually more old trees along the trail will be marked in such manner.
This initiative is made possible with the assistance of Dr Arthur Chung and Dr Joan Dr Joan T. Pereira of Forestry Department.
Meanwhile, Lily Aw President of St Cecilia’s Alumnue thanked her members, schools and other NGOs for supporting this walk aiming to emphasise the importance of exercise on top of learning history of Sandakan.
