KIULU : – Muslims and Christians at Kampung Parad here showed a fine example of unity and respect by organising a joint Hari Raya and Easter celebration over the weekend.
Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who officiated the joint celebration, said the spirit of togetherness shown by the villagers is something that should be emulated by other villages.
“We should consider organising a community or harmony festival to celebrate the religious, cultural, and traditional diversity of the village folks in one big, joyful event,” he said.
He said such a special festival could become a yearly celebration for the state constituency.
“Our people live peacefully together regardless of religion, and this can attract tourists looking for real cultural experiences,” said Joniston, who is also Assistant Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister.
He said tourists today want more than scenery and want to experience local culture and how the people live.
“In Kiulu, they can enjoy nature and also see how villagers help one another and respect each other’s beliefs,” he said, adding that showing unity through daily actions is more meaningful.
Joniston also said the kampung environment is important in nurturing a younger generation with empathy and respect for others.
“Our community shows that rejecting extremism and living in peace is possible. This is something we can proudly share with the world.
“Kiulu is already a rural destination that not only offers natural beauty but also exemplifies how people can live together in harmony,” he said, adding promoting this way of life can help strengthen rural tourism.
