Sabah Teachers’ Union hails decision to allow transfer after 2 years

Murkam Hj Hussien

KOTA KINABALU : – The Sabah Government Teachers’ Union (KGKS) hails the government decision to allow teachers to apply for transfers after 2 years.

The union described the decision by the Ministry of Education as the best step that should be supported by all parties.

KGKS president Murkam Hj Hussien said the reform was timely and aligned with KGKS’s long-standing struggle, especially in championing the welfare of teachers from Sabah who serve in other states or districts in Sabah.

According to him, KGKS welcomes the good news because it somewhat provides relief to teachers, especially those whose spouses are separated by postings or work locations and those who have health issues.

“Such flexibility is hoped to ensure the mental well-being and work spirit of teachers, especially those who are married and have been separated for a long time, are always at their best,” he said in a statement here today.

Murkam was commenting on six pieces of good news, including the relaxation of teacher transfers announced by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek on Friday.

During her speech at the 54th Teacher’s Day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Fadhina also announced the Ministry of Education’s decision to provide 1,470 MyPg personnel, who are teacher assistants, and to give opportunities to 32 award-winning teachers to serve at international schools in the United Kingdom.

Murkam said KGKS is committed to advocating for the welfare of educators in Sabah and is always open to hearing their grievances for the common good.
