Upholding the Spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963
KOTA KINABALU : – The ongoing discussions surrounding Sabah’s governance and the call for Sabah for Sabahans highlight a fundamental principle: the importance of respecting the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
This issue is not about Sabahans opposing Malayan parties, but about ensuring that the principles and promises made during Malaysia’s formation are upheld and preserved.
Sabah’s autonomy is the key to effective governance, rooted in the spirit of MA63.
The State must have the authority to manage its own affairs and resources without undue interference from Malayan political parties. R
especting Sabah’s right to self-governance, particularly in electoral processes, is vital to maintaining the state’s sovereignty and integrity.
Malayan political parties are strongly urged to honor the provisions of MA63. Any attempt to undermine or violate this agreement risks Sabah’s autonomy and could threaten the unity of the Malaysian federation.
Our forefathers fought hard to build a nation founded on mutual respect and cooperation.
Disregarding MA63 endangers that unity and could lead to its dissolution.
In the upcoming Sabah State elections, Sabahans must exercise their right to vote wisely—supporting local parties is crucial.
This is a patriotic and strategic choice to safeguard Sabah’s sovereignty and future.
Supporting local parties ensures that Sabah’s voice is prioritized, its interests are protected, and our autonomy is preserved within Malaysia.
All signatories of MA63 are bound to honor their commitments made in 1963.
Upholding these promises is essential for Sabah’s autonomy and the strength of our federation. This reaffirms our dedication to the values that have united Malaysia for over six decades.
Since Malayan parties entered Sabah’s political arena, divisions among Sabahans have deepened, often pushing support towards Malayan-centered policies.
This weakens our resolve to advocate for our rights and autonomy.
To Sabahans, especially our leaders: supporting Malayan political parties’ involvement in the political process in Sabah diminishes the spirit of MA63 and is a betrayal of our people.
It is time for a paradigm shift—one that puts Sabahans first.
We must vote wisely, and overwhelmingly support local parties that truly represent our interests and future.
