KOTA KINABALU : – The fate of former Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony with regard to his application for a judicial review of the appeal decision that upheld his conviction and prison sentence for document forgery will be known on July 9.
According to a previous report by BERNAMA, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin stated that this date was set during a case management session before Deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal Mohd Khairi Harun, which was held online on May 16.
The proceedings were also participated in by DPP Haresh Prakash Somiah and lawyer Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad, who represents Peter.
On March 4, a panel of three judges from the Court of Appeal, Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Datuk Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, and Datuk Azmi Ariffin, dismissed the appeal, resulting in the Melalap assemblyman having to serve a three-year prison sentence.
On May 26, 2022, the Sessions Court here imposed the prison sentence and a fine of RM50,000 after Peter was found guilty of document forgery related to the maintenance contract for the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) System at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
Peter has paid the fine.
