Bullies should face severe penalties, says KGKS president

Murkam…perpetrators to be apprehended and face appropriate consequences.

KOTA KINABALU :  – The Sabah Government Teachers’ Union (KGKS) urges authorities to take strict action, including imposing heavy penalties on those who engage in bullying in the state.

KGKS President Gundohing Murkam Hj Hussien stated that this is crucial as the bullying phenomenon is increasingly rampant in society, whether in physical or cyber forms.

“It seems that cases of physical bullying involving students continue to occur without a definitive resolution.

“Recently, a Form One student at a religious school in Papar died after falling from the third floor of the school building,” he said.

Murkam stated that KGKS takes bullying incidents seriously and is optimistic about reducing the culture of bullying.

“We want the perpetrators to be apprehended and face appropriate consequences… a life cannot be replaced.

“KGKS extends its condolences to the family of the deceased, and KGKS will assist and ensure the investigation of this case proceeds smoothly,” he said.

Murkam said that they are ready to collaborate with the State Education Department and the police to stay updated on the current developments of the case.

“We are also providing counselling sessions for the family, as the mother of the deceased is a member of KGKS,” he said.
