KOTA KINABALU : Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, hinted at announcing something ‘big’ this Sunday involving the direction of the Sabah Gagasan Rakyat Party (Gagasan Rakyat) ahead of the 17th State Election (PRN17).

It is expected to be related to the motion to face PRN17 which will be raised at the Gagasan Rakyat Annual General Conference.

Hajiji who is Gagasan Rakyat’s president will be officiating conference.

“Yes, just wait for my speech on Sunday,” he said when met after opening the Gagasan Rakyat Information Seminar in conjunction with the party’s Annual General Assembly at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here, today.

Also present were Gagasan Rakyat Deputy President, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and Gagasan Rakyat Information Chief, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.

The seminar was attended by about 400 Information Chiefs from 74 divisions, including the Women’s, Youth and Youth wings of Gagasan Rakyat.

Hajiji was asked about the possibility of any major proposals regarding the direction of Gagasan Rakyat ahead of the 17th general election being decided at the conference, which began with a party wing-level conference tomorrow.

Previously, Gagasan Rakyat’s partners in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) expressed support for the local party coalition to go solo in the 17th general election.

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), which are also GRS component parties, expressed support for GRS to contest solo in their recent joint convention.

Hajiji, however, remained silent on the matter, instead stating that the GRS-Pakatan Harapan (PH) discussions would be decided soon.

He had previously also mentioned the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to make way for the 17th general election which would be announced after the Gagasan Rakyat Annual General Conference and there was a possibility that the date would be mentioned in his speech this Sunday.

Regarding today’s closed seminar, the Gagasan Rakyat President said it was a meeting of the Gagasan Rakyat information chiefs from all divisions and levels of the party.

“Today we begin the conference by meeting with the party’s information chiefs from every division and at all levels.

“We are mobilizing the machinery to explain the party’s struggle, what has been done and implemented by the government today.  That must be explained to the people,” he said.

Hajiji said the seminar was to ensure that Gagasan Rakyat leaders at all levels and levels intensify the machinery to face the 17th general election.
