Jimson Majemal…DUN Tandek meets the basic criteria to be recognised as a sub-district.
KOTA KINABALU : – The Sabah government has been urged to explore the potential of Pekan Tandek for elevation to a sub-district.
In making the call, the pro tem President of the Tandek Indigenous Development Association (PEJATI), Jimson Majemal, expressed confidence that Pekan Tandek or the entire DUN Tandek meets the basic criteria to be recognized as a sub-district.
“There are already shoplots and housing in the vicinity of Pekan Tandek. Additionally, the population is steadily increasing, and the area is quite expansive,” he stated in a recent social media post.
According to Jimson, this initiative is believed to further stimulate development and socio-economic growth in the Tandek area.
He hopes that no one will question the rationale behind the initiative to upgrade Tandek to a sub-district.
“We should think long-term and view this effort positively for a brighter future.
“For instance, in the Tuaran district, there are two sub-districts, namely Tamparuli and Kiulu. In terms of distance, Pekan Tuaran and Pekan Tamparuli are nearly equidistant from Pekan Kota Marudu to Pekan Tandek… thus, the issue of Pekan Tandek’s eligibility for upgrade does not arise,” he remarked.
Jimson noted that if this proposal comes to fruition, various administrative matters, especially those related to land, could be managed more efficiently, while simultaneously alleviating the administrative workload at the Kota Marudu district office.
“Moreover, this step is believed to strengthen community management in rural areas. For instance, in Kg Magandai, it can save on transportation costs and time, ” he said.
He hopes that this suggestion will be considered due to its potential to create a significant long-term economic impact.
Previously, Jimson, who is also a former Assistant District Education Officer of Kota Marudu, proposed that the Federal Government establish a branch of the Polytechnic in Kota Marudu to meet the needs of the people, particularly students or youth in the northern coastal region of Sabah
