SAPP fields 6 for Sabah polls, including party president’s 2 children

KOTA KINABALU : – Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) on Friday announced fielding six candidates in the forthcoming State Elections.

In a statement released by the party’s secretary general Datuk Richard Yong, the party’s president Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee was not among the candidates.

However, two of the six candidate are Yong Teck Lee’s children.

They are Yong Yit Jee, 38, and Yvonne Yong Yit Phung, 40.

Yit Jee, a lawyer, will contest the Likas seat, while businesswoman Yit Phung will stand in Segama.

Richard Yong said the party’s Supreme Council had unanimously approved the candidates during its 233rd meeting Friday afternoon.

“Reflecting the party’s culture of discipline and good organisation, SAPP is the first political party to announce its candidates,” he said.

Meanwhile at the party headquarters, Datuk Yong Teck Lee also announced four other candidates as follows: –

* N.21 Luyang– Gee Tien Siong, 52, businessman (SAPP vice-president)

* N.27 Limbahau– Datuk Edward Dagul, 59, businessman (SAPP deputy president)

* N.38 Kundasang – Datuk Japiril Suhaimi, 62, former Suhakam secretary (SAPP deputy president / treasurer-general)

* N.56 Tanjung Papat – Henley Liew Yun Ye, 57, former school principal (SAPP Tanjung Papat CLC vice-chairman)

Yit Jee, Yit Phung, and Liew are first-time candidates.

SAPP was formerly a component of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.

However, it left the coalition along with Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) last month to contest in the Sabah polls under its own logo.

Yong Teck Lee, a former Sabah Chief Minister, was previously an appointed assemblyman in the GRS government. – NST
