SANDAKAN : Last April’s arrest of UPPM Elopura Community Development Officer (CDO) by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, is a serious matter requiring a full and transparent investigation.
Any misconduct in public assistance programmes must be dealt with strictly.
This was disclosed by Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun in a statement on Thursday.
According to Chong, he has already provided full cooperation to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sandakan branch in their investigation concerning the Program Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) in Elopura.
“My position is clear: zero tolerance for corruption. If anyone is proven guilty based on evidence, legal action must be taken without compromise,” he added.
Chong strongly supports the MACC Sabah proposals to improve governance of the Rumah Mesra programme, such as tightening eligibility and enhancing monitoring.
These steps are crucial to safeguard public funds and ensure aid reaches the truly needy.
Relevant agencies must implement these improvements urgently to eliminate any opportunity for abuse.
Public trust requires good governance. All involved in executing public programs must act with accountability and integrity, he added.
Chong urged anyone with information on wrongdoing to come forward.
As the Elopura elected representative, he remains committed to transparent programme implementation, the people’s welfare, and supporting anti-corruption efforts for a just Sabah.
